Abstract

Teaching Turkish as a foreign language is Turkish education given to people whose native language is not Turkish. Teaching Turkish as a foreign language has gained importance in recent years. The number of people who want to learn Turkish as a foreign language is increasing over time. As a result of this situation, studies in this field have accelerated. One of the studies on teaching Turkish as a foreign language is cultural transfer. The issue of cultural transfer is also a very important issue in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Language teaching and cultural transfer must proceed simultaneously. Cultural transmission is the transfer of all values of a society to future generations through discourses and symbols. Teaching Turkish to foreigners is not the only purpose of teaching grammar and vocabulary; however, intercultural interaction is also necessary. Considering that language and culture are an inseparable whole, when teaching that language, the traditions, customs, social life styles, values, beliefs, cultural elements and the like of the country whose language is taught should be given as a whole together with the language. In this way, while teaching a language, cultural transfer is also ensured and language teaching is strengthened. One of the most important tools used in language teaching is textbooks. The presence of cultural elements in the textbooks used in foreign language teaching both facilitates the learning of that language and makes what is learned permanent. It strengthens the student's bond with the country where he/she learns the language. In this study, the document review method was used by considering the Turkish Living B1 and B2 level course books and workbooks used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
